Aloha kakou,
Starting tomorrow, our new taropatch friend Kamalani will be in the hospital getting surgery so that her mobility can improve (she's totally blind like me but also has dwarfism). She'll be there for quite a long time and will have to miss two weeks of school. I encourage all of you to e-mail her from her profile page to show some aloha.

| Yeah, I'm supposed to be having it done at two... which probably means they won't start till four... but that's becides the point. Anyway, just to add a little more info to what Alika said, basicaly what they're doing is releasing tendons so that I can walk better and for longer distances, as sometimes I use a wheelchair for great distances and stuff. my mom seems to think after this one I won't need the wheelchair at al, that's stretching it I'd say but hey she'd know more about this one than I would. So I'm not really sure if I'm actually going to be in the hospital for a while or if I'll actually be at home; the paper with all the information and that jazz says I'll be home but somehow I doubt it. again though, they'd know more. Either way I'll probably have my computer; I'd go bananas with out this thing. So send an email, post, whatever. Lataz. Kama. |

I have seen this surgery many times, and while I don't know your situation, I can tell you that it is usually successful, and people tell me there isn't too much pain. Hopefully it will be all worth it when you can get around better. |

Best of luck, Kamalani. It's never a bag of laughs going into the hospital, but it should only be for a short while. As the old saying has it 'This, too, shall pass'.
Thumbstruck is absolutely right - music is a great help. It helps pass the time, and takes your mind off everything else.
I hope you'll start to see the benefits as soon as possible. |

Kama no have one 'uke. I just brought mine to a camp that we were both at last summer and taught her by letting her use it. She wants one though... |

Just spoke with Kama, and she sounds like her normal self. I don't know how long it'll take her to read all the lovely notes you've posted as her wireless connection is going very slowly as of now, but I think she will be able to read them eventually. Mahalo for your support of my hoaaloha! |

Update: Still no wireless connection from Kama's end apparently, but she seems to be in pretty good health and says that she's not in that much pain now. She also mentioned that she may transfer to another hospital where she'll be able to do physical therapy with three hour periods in between each session. She still talks and sings as if everything is normal. Please keep sending your messages of support and aloha. She said her computer is at her house because she can't get onto the Net, but I know she'll read your comments and e-mails when she's back at home.

Net's working! yea! we got a staff member to get it working now i've transferred. Mahalo for all the great messages.
it hasn't been so bad. I'll be starting physical theropy for a good two weeks or so then I'll be home. But i'll be able to be online thank goodness! |

| Aloha e Kamalani: From first hand experience, I can tell you that the therapists will seem like torture specialists at first, like slave drivers, but hang in there. It really does speed you along to recovery and makes you use the body in the correct and efficient ways without compounding other problems. Hang in there. And if they offer pain meds, do not be shy about taking them. It all helps in quicker recovery. No shame to say when you hurt. |

| I agree. it's just when you've got those annoying ones who think you're some kind of invinsible being or something that really agrivate me. you know, the ones who keep going at it even they know you hurt until you're in there screaming bloody murder. That was my first experience with the theropests, but it was only that one woman and the rest seem pretty cool. It really does help speed things along. As for pain meds, yeah, glorious creations those are! Especially right before theropy lol. I have physical theropy at one (two hours from now) and I can't wait! it'll be nice to get out of this blasted bed! |
