Headed to New Zealand next week for 16 days. Staying with friends in Christchurch, but will be on North Island for a few days, too. Any "for sure" spots I need to take in? Our friends have been there 4 years, so we're counting on them for an itinerary. But, I'd listen to any advise from the TP. Thanks
We spent most of our time in Dunedin as we didn't have a vehicle. We did take one nice long train ride from Dunedin north that was nice. We also too a bus and spent a weekend in Queenstown, which is the area that much of Lord of the Rings was filmed. Somewhere in that area there is the hobbit village, not sure if it's the actual one they used or a replica. Remember it's fall for them, and this is about the time when things start to get chilly. We did Queenstown one weekend in April and the following weekend they had snow. You can see our train ride and my daughter's bungee jump at Queenstown on my Youtube channel:
We never made it anywhere else, no Christchurch and only stopped at Auckland on our way to and from Dunedin. If you have any specific questions about travel feel free to email me.
