Please send your prayers and healing thoughts to our dear friend Cyril Lani Pahinui.

Here are two recent updates for those who are not on facebook...

Aloha to all of our friends, family and fans worldwide who have been praying for Cyril Lani Pahinui during this time of crisis. We can not express how much we appreciate your love and support. Cyril's surgery has been completed and he is not in critical condition as we begin the healing process. His condition was worse than expected and so the recovery will be slow and hard. Your continued prayers and aloha are appreciated. We will fill his room with Hawaiian music which is his life force and has helped him through each day of this challenge. Please do the same. Hawaiian music is filled with aloha. Play all you can and celebrate its message in your own lives. Now we pray.

Aloha to all of our FB friends family and fans. We sincerely appreciate your aloha and prayers at this critical time for Cyril Lani Pahinui. As an update, we wanted to let you all know that he is very determined and working hard on improving. As a result of his service in Viet Nam on the front lines artillery Cyril was heavliy exposed to several chemicals including agent orange. This exposure has impacted his lungs and heart for many years. And although he quit over 10 years ago smoking certainly did not help.

At this time, Cyril's right lung has collapsed and the lining filled with fluids. Our expert Doctors at Queen's have drained the lung and with limited success tried some pretty aggressive medical procedures hoping to resolve the situation. Cyril is now in ICU with a full "Garth Nadar" Oxygen mask trying to offset CO2 saturation that could result in a permanent coma. As a last solution, an expert surge has been brought in to perform lung surgery tomorrow at mid day. This is also a very risky procedure however it is now our only hope of prolonging his life with any quality and out of permanent life support and hospitalization.

This morning after careful explanation and consideration, Cyril has chosen to proceed with the surgery. We sincerely appreciate your ongoing prayers and aloha and feel very blessed to have so many people's support. It is pretty overwhelming to see how many people have shared and commented and expressed their aloha. Yesterday we had the most wonderful day with family and friends and the music at Queen's Heart Center was unbeatable. Also, hanging in with us is the living treasure and Waterman of Waianae Keaulana Richard Buffalo. (Please also remember him in your prayers as well.) Buffalo also brought in his own gang of musicians to stroll the hallways. Yeee ha!!! It was amazing and sincerely enjoyed by all.

Many of you have called and emailed and expressed your aloha and desire to send flowers and lei. We are unable to have them in ICU and will also be moving room to room over the next few days of procedures and recovery so mahalo nui for your thoughts and support. We ask instead if you want to do something, please visit www.gabbypahinui.com and consider ordering a t-shirt. We have not been able to get to much of the publicity that is usually done by Cyril. He is adamant about the festival happening and is working hard with his doctors to progress and be able to attend. It gives him hope and a goal to focus on along with joining his family for a major b-b-q at the Bell Street home (As you can imagine, hospital food is not so ono and three days of nothing but IV Fluids is the worst menu yet). And with that your patience is also appreciated as we miss a few days and shipping is a bit delayed because of it. The line-up is once again amazing and will be posted out later today or tomorrow. So if you are planning to be on Oahu April 23, 2016. Please plan to join us at Waimanalo Beach Park to celebrate both Cyril and Gabby's birthdays and some once in a lifetime kanikapila!

Again we send our aloha to you all and cannot express our sincere appreciation for all of you our FB friends!

When we visited Honolulu last April, we got to see Uncle Cyril and Peter Moon Jr play at the Kanikapila Grille. It was the highlight of our trip. I introduced myself to Uncle Cyril before the show and mentioned that I had taken a workshop from him several years prior and still played slack-key regularly. He very graciously invited me to come up and play a tune or two with him. I declined, because it was HIS gig and I did not want to intrude. But I will never forget the generous spirit behind the offer.

Get well soon, Uncle. Thoughts and prayers.......

Today's update:

Aloha and good morning to all of our FB friends and ohana. As way of update. Today is another critical day for us. We will remove the breathing and feeding tubes and replace them with a small emergency line that will assist in any setbacks of independent breathing. Just as it sounds this is yet another innovative and risky surgical procedure and one that we think is vital to the process of Cyril's healing.

As we have over and over thanked each of you for your ongoing prayers we can not thank you enough for your continued efforts to mention him along with your other deer loved ones. The power of prayer for healing has been witnessed not only by us but by the tireless and unwavering staff at the Queen's Medical Center. We humbly and with sincere gratitude thank you all for your ongoing efforts. It means a lot.

As demonstration, we offer you this little story. A few days ago a surprise visit came to the door of Cyril's hospital room. An old friend came by to offer a prayer. on his way out he turned back and said to us, "Easter is coming. After the rising there was one who refused to believe that the resurrected Jesus had appeared to the ten other apostles, until he could see and feel the wounds received by Jesus on the cross. And that is the Apostle now known as the Doubting Thomas. He will come to you. Don't believe him. Put your faith in the ones who believe. And in three days you will receive good news. Expect the miracle." Although this is a lot to think about, it was set aside as we refocused on the ongoing care and management of our situation in the moment.

About an hour and a half later a doctor came in who was substituting for our lung doctor who then was out of town. He offered us nothing but sad news. He asked us to look at the x-ray and to prepare for the worst. To not hold on to false hopes. As you can imagine we who sit vigil were heart broken and although it was devastating to us we did not share this news with Cyril. We believed that it was best to remain constant in our commitment. And to expect the good news to come. As our other Drs. learned of this situation each of them offered us new solutions, increased attention and care and hope.

Yesterday when our own Dr. retuned, he told us of this new procedure that is far less invasive than the old methods and that once the line was removed the wound would heal in a few days. Completely reversible. Today is that third day and we move forward in all faith that we will receive the miracle of your and our prayers. Never think that each of your voices does not lend to the choir who call for healing.

With so much struggling going on in the world and suffering far greater than ours to be considered, each of your voices and the mention of Cyril's name in your thought of love is a blessing for us valued above anything we could receive. And we are humbled and grateful continually.

Thanks for the update, Andy. Medicine is a strange discipline. Doctors tend to be pessimistic, preferring not to raise false hopes. And there are new treatments coming all the time.

Prayers sent. Ric

It's easier to ask for forgiveness, than permission!
