Hey Patrick -
What happened to the Grants Pass date? I was pretty stoked that you'd be on my turf... now I gotta drive to California????
For everyone else: do not miss this show. I saw a preview at the Folk Alliance last month and it was fantastic.
cheers,
Mark |

Aloha Mark, if you HAVE to come to California, come to the Villa Montalvo show and you can stay at our house in the beautiful redwoods of Boulder Creek. We'd love to see you and Annie. Hugs, Julie |

| The May 15 concert at UCSB is listed here as an 8:00 PM start time. I just purchased tickets, which have a 6:30 PM start. Can someone confirm the correct time. I don't want to show up at 6:30 then wait 1 1/2 hours nor show up at 8:00 only to find I missed most of the concert. |

I caught the May 12 show at the Freight and Salvage - what a hoot! The two kids (Herb and David) twisted Keoki's arm and got him to play guitar while they ran the "Europa" from Santana's jazzy period, and "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder. They pulled off both tunes in fine style and had the audience in an uproar. Uncle Dennis did a set with David, and they played a Mexican piece ("El Rancho Grande?") and a Cajun number that Dennis wrote, along with some tunes David wrote for his solo CD. The rest of the show was more traditional stuff, and all of it was sweet. Keoki is one of my favorite singers (along with you, Patrick) and his guitar playing is showing the Moses influence a lot these days. Uncle Cyril was the icing on the cake.

Aloha e Sarah & Reid!
Yes, I'm in Greenwich this weekend (as I type) but only for a few days to visit my parents and some visiting relatives. Next time I'm out for a longer period of time I'll do my best to make the trip over to visit! |

Well we just saw "da gang" at Villa Montalvo last nite.
It was a delight that they presented there because, in my opinion Villa Montalvo is the very best upscale venue in the Bay Area. You simply cannot get a prettier spot (will all the arboretum variety, the walking paths, the quiet of a secluded area, the pretty and historic Villa, etc, etc.) This was my first time in the Carriage House since they rebuilt the interior, and they did a good job. I am so happy that Patrick Landeza was able to book them into this venue (way better than the little fox) even though I had to do more driving.
Yeah Patrick !!
When we arrived the young-uns was (were) out in front hawking CD's and talking story. Da ole-farts were nowhere in sight. Got to say hello to everyone and (thanks to a suggestion by Larry) smartly stocked up on new CDs before the mid and post show rushes.
The concert itself was a delight with more variety than expected (as Fran mentioned also). David Kamakahi is ever more impressive, not that the other guyz were slouches. Da "ole-farts" finally showed up and did separate and combined sets with "da gang". Dennis K showed off his compositional skill yet again with a very good original Cajun ?? song which I cannot not keep from humming in my mind ever since I heard it. Cyril, of couse, got a strong response with his tribute to his father (Hi'ilawe). There were at least 5 or 6 "honor and tribute" pieces played showing that, indeed, a generation shift is underway.
Don't miss this if it comes to a town near you !
