Our apologies for the short notice, but we just received confirmation that Kumu Hula Michael Pili Pang will present an intensive workshop on the Hula Ku'i on Saturday, April 3 from 2:00 - 5:00 pm at: Ripley Grier 520 8th Ave, Between 36th and 37th Street 16th Floor, Studio 16 F-G New York City Michael heads up Halau Hula Ka No'eau and its non-profit arm Hawaii Arts Ensemble located in the uplands of Waimea on the Big Island of Hawaii. The halau has won numerous awards in competitions, travelled throughout the United States and among many foundation grants received was given a National Endowment for the Arts grant to create dances on the birth of Kamehameha I. Michael is known for his creativity, innovation and strong roots in the tradition of Aunty Maiki Aiu Lake. Michael will lecture/demonstrate on the stylings and music of the Hula Ku'i, how it is used in music and poetry and teach a hula. He is currently enrolled in a masters program in fine arts and hula at the University of Hawaii.
Cost: $40 HCF member; $45 General. Payment will be accepted at the door.
