Uncle Steve Ma`i`i, Uncle Eddie Kamae, Kaliko Palmeira
I'd like to share one photo from this past weekend's event in NYC. Above is the opening night, post-screening party - what a jam! It was an extraordinary weekend made possible by the tireless efforts of the Hawai`i Cultural Foundation (and others).
To have Uncle Eddie and Auntie Myrna Kamae share their music, films and aloha with us felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Although, I hope that they enjoyed their time enough here to consider coming back.
The many other films, workshops, pa`inas were enjoyable and diverse including slam poetry, Maori dance, chanting... dare I say too much for a single person to digest but definitely something for everyone!
Mahalo to everyone involved. It'll be a tough act to follow. |

Sarah and I would have have loved to be there, especially since there was a chant workshop early the next morning. But it would have been about $1k to travel to (and from), and stay overnight (including eats), in the Big Apple. And we are only 2 train hours away.
We are priced out of the whole situation.
