Hiram's `ukulele workshop at the Aloha Festival is legendary. The tent is packed with students, and people are clustered all around the edges to join in the fun. Hiram teaches a few songs and demonstrates advanced techniques while spinning out stories, music theory, and the meaning of the universe with his trademark deadpan delivery. Definitely bring your uke down or what.

In fact, come early and bring a guitar too. I'll be doing my third annual slack key workshop, hopefully in the session before Hiram. I'm not nearly as entertaining as Hiram, but then I'm handicapped by those extra strings.

Fran, having attended your last two workshops I can say you hide your handicap very well. Looking forward to this year.

Aloha,

Eh joka..i know you? Yu soun like my bruda!!!

Thank you for your kind words, Fran. You should really ask for a spot next year on the main stage to share your wonderful music with all of SF. We don't all fit in that small tent. I enjoy your playing and look forward to working with you on Aug 4 and 5. For more info about the 13th Annual Aloha Festival, a PICA event, go to http://www.pica-org.org/AlohaFest/index.html

Yes I am playing at the Hukilau in SF on Friday July 27 and in San Jose on Sat July 28 I am filling in for Kona Gold from 8 to 11pm.

If you want to see our group, The HUI Performers, we perform on the main stage on Sunday, Aug5 at 11am. We have 13 members participating this year including the 'Prodigy Kid Evan T', the Acrobatics of Aaron D, Jazzy Lila'lele', 'Kit Rock', 'Mighty Joe Uke' and others. (these are just normal people with wacky nicknames to protect their innocence)

This years playlist is Naka Pueo, Wave, All Along The Watchtower, Take 5, Tamacun, Fly in the Web, On Fire and Iniki Malie. If time permits, I'll play something by george harrison. Or what do you guys want to hear?

Bring your ukes to the Ed tent at 1pm both days for the Uke Workshop.
This years topic will delve into String Theory as relates to the Music of the Spheres. Re-entrant tuners must enter the edtent twice. Low G strings are cool. High strung players are welcome also. The cost of the workshop is included in the price of admission to the Festival. See you there... Hiram

Stay Tuned...
