I'm still here too, but a little rare...but IF I remember my password.
Voila!
I'd be a fan of any new chance of RENEWAL when Andy is in charge.

No other place like Taropatch, not even U tube...where I rarely go GeDiven.
Taropatch, it's sorta like CHEERS, only Real!
oh, and by the way--George's camp in June looks likely.
No promises, but most reservations in place.
I need renewal!

Also still here! I'm waiting for Andy to come out to Santa Cruz and do a concert at the Aloha Grill or something. (obligatory once every 10 years emoticon)

I feel like the late 90's thru mid 2000's were the resurgence of Hawaiian music in general, especially Kiho'alu.

Life happens, and many of us are still here but doing other things as well. As most things are cyclic, I'd expect to see the next surge of interest and enthusiasm for kiho'alu to begin building soon, with lot's of new players.

Aloha everyone !

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be............sigh.
Humans are on the constant quest for novelty, thus new tunes, new tunings.

I, too, have been around but not playing as much due to extreme busy-ness trying to start a peony farm. All that hand work along with chain sawing 7-10 cords of firewood each year have taken a serious toll on my wrists and fingers. Now I can only play a few slow songs and have to quit. My son just left after a week long visit and he gave me some stretches that might help, so I am optimistic I can get back to where I can play in front of someone again. Dusty, sorry to hear your "voice" has been muted as well.
In looking over the recent posts there are a few names I did not see; slkho (Rick Nieves), and Jesse tinsley come to mind.
I hope to stay more connected in the future.

Kory
Great to be back among the ohana.
Question; I remember how to play Newpeppa Slack. Is No Bodda Me in the same tuning; open G played n the key of C? I want to figure that tune out.

"No Boddah Me" is played in G in G taropatch (see YouTube), but can be played in G tuning in C. You have to tinker with it. I like to play the F chord with my middle finger on the lowest D string on the 3rd fret and use the middle D string open (F6), then slide down 1 fret for the E7.

I check the patch out 4 or 5 times a week, but often there's nothing new. It's sad to see that the last steel post was from me in March.

There's a song in there somewhere, but getting serious for a moment, I think the lack of participation in this wonderful [old] site can be summed up in a word: technology

how 'bout TWO words: progress

maybe THREE words: smart(?)phones

which begs FOUR words: Facebook (i.e. social media et al)

I'm sure there're many other reasons, but herein lies the crux(es), in my opinion. Most of us can't beat 'um--but be assured, I'm one who'll never join 'um.

I don't know how hard it is to access and send messages to this forum via a smart(?)phone, but I'll wager there're a lot of people who don't take the time to fire up the ol' confuser anymore.

Not when they can reach into their pocket and pull out a little device that (they say) can do most of what a confuser used to do.

I could be very wrong, but that's my story...
