There are lots of excellent videos out there of Led doing his "Slack Key Lullaby" and it's one of the pieces he teaches on his Homespun video, but I figured one more clip won't hurt. I got Led into my upstairs studio, set up a pair of mics and three cameras, and we jammed for a couple of days. One of the tunes I goofed up the least is this old favorite:

Led has his wonderful old Martin 000-16, I'm using my Wingert Model E, we're both in taropatch.

Mahalo nui loa, Fran. I learned at least two things from just one listen: First, I seem to play this way too fast. It is a calming lullaby after all. Secondly, there are plenty of places where I can throw in alternate licks and variations that I mostly know but am not currently using in this piece. Uncle Led is certainly the master of doing that.
This video has been bookmarked and will see considerable further study over the coming weeks. It is almost an intermediate slack-key course in itself. |

This is beautiful. Thanks for sharing, Fran. I would find it very difficult to play with Led, as I've borrowed stolen so many of my licks from him and I wouldn't want to step on toes. |

I probably should just put these videos up with the Led camera all the way through because as you say, every time he plays it's an instructional video of its own.

Led has a formula for two slack key guitars - when one goes high the other goes low and vice versa. And when you play some of his licks back at him he _loves_ it.

I use this same philosophy when playing with others at jams -- play where they ain't.
I hope to someday connect with you, Fran. Meeting Led would be an awesome bonus. Retirement is looming and we might be able to make road trips to the Bay Area in 2018. If so, we will be in touch. |

My wife is retiring. I intend to keep working about half time (at least for a while) because I really enjoy what I do. Most of my work can be done from my cell phone and laptop, so I can be more mobile.
I have become WAY more picky about what projects I take on, and who gets referred to another acoustical engineer out of state. It isn't a bad thing being the only specialist in Idaho.
