| This film was broadcast statewide on PBS Hawai`i late last year. Sure hope they run it again...love hearing pidgin spoken many, many folks here on Kaua`i (but rarely hear it when I'm on O`ahu, unfortunately). |

| aww man. wot, I wen miss um hea in CA o wat? I no could find any info on wen/if dis ting goin pay again on PBS ova hea. Funny ting is dat I usually no trust da documentaries - but afta watching da 6 min into ting, all I like do is watch some-mo. Tanks fo sharing eh! |

| I noticed dis show was on last night 11pm on KVIE Sacramento. Good was! Was interesting fo see all da different ways people look at da pidgin, from old folks, haoles, hapa kids, hawaiians, japanese, young kids. Da producer wen do one really good job talking about all da different issues dat we (and our parents and grandparents) had growing up in Hawaii - like how our maddah and faddah's neva like us talk liddat (but look, now I stay pau Grad school) and all da stigma dat people get wen dey talk pidgin. Was interesting seeing da Punahou kids talking about da pidgin dat da "public school" kids talk. Nowdays since I no mo HI ID anymo, my pidgin is da only way fo get all da kama`aina discounts! |

| E bradda, waz good da show? Wotchoo wen lern? I neva even no had won show yeh? I like go see won time get pidgin in hia education lidat. Would be so radical get plany smart peepo who only tok pidgin lidat, kenna spell too good, but dey get good minds. Oni problem iz dey always get iced out coz dey kenna tok good english, so dey get marginalized ( I lern diz won in college i wen get won hia education). Az won result da local guyz no like go speak pidgin, bumbai dey figuah goin go make ass. So wen you gotto tink about da fuchua fo you anden yo family (if you get one), mobetta no tok pidgin wea it can hurt you oa your job prospects. Wotchoo tink? |

I stay watch fo see if da stashun hea goin play da show, at least at a time I can watch. (See thread about how things can snowball to see why nomo TV recording options).

We can record on the bedroom TV, just not in the living room right now. But it's not too likely to be shown up here in the Land Of Homogenized Music.

Tanks eh Wanda :-) Hard fo post stuff nowdays - gotta do um in between kids screaming, diapahs, and feeding dem. By da time da cycle pau, gotta start all ova. lol.
If we treat pidgin like any odda language (cuz it is) den we gotta keep da language going cuz bumbai, goin jus die. I tink dat since da language always stay hooked up wit culture, keeping da pidgin alive goin keep da local culture going too. In grad school I wen give one of my talks in pidgin - hard waz. All I do is theory, get choke formulas, math and all kine physics. Good fo see dat nowdays get pidgin written down, so at least da ting stay frozen on da pepa. I had fo write my dissertation in good kine english, but da dedication page, all in pidgin man! Dey let us write um how we like no? I tink everybody should learn good english in school, at least enuff fo write and talk little bit, dat way can still get job an talk to da haoles on da mainland. BUT, I no tink we should stop kids from talking pidgin - cuz dass our culture, da way we tink and express wass inside. (I still tink in my head all in pidgin).
