Help me find some music to use that would be peppy enough to use for cardiac rehab. Today I took a CD of hula music to our rehab class but it was much too slow, very nahenahe. I need some suggestions for mele that would get our pu`uwai workin' out! I'll take your suggestions and whatever we have on CD, I burn onto another CD and call it Cardiac Rehab Mele or something like that. Title for the CD would be good, too.
Please help me out quickly because I want to have this ready on Monday for our last session before our "Hele Fo' Da Mele".
  Mahalo.

                      | Try Gary Madeiros' album, "Hula Pa'ina". It's hula, but he's a changalang specialist. Even if I'm on it, it's a fine CD. Can get 'em thru Mele.com or by contacting Gary, who lurks about here. |

  I second this suggestion.
Even if the music ends up not being quite what you are after, you should STILL check it out; it's a marvelous album. |

Oh I do have Gary Medeiros' album. Yes, I will choose one or two from there. And Jay, your music is nice, but not quite what I am looking for. Part of this whole process is to introduce these Cleveland folks to traditional type Hawaiian music. I think maybe I will put some Na Palapalai (Aia La O Pele I Hawai`i), maybe some Willie K. (You Ku`u Ipo), but I need more ideas. I need to put together about an hours worth. We have lots of music but a lot of it is nahenahe stuff. Maybe Panini Puakea by Gabby. I was thinking the Toad Song by Keali`i Reichel, but then I might scare them away from Hawaiian music. |

Maybe it would be better to give us a list of a dozen or songs that you already know are what you are after, and we can suggest some in similar veins.

Well I think for songs: Radio Hula, Ledward style Opihi Moemoe, not sure yet whose version Maui Girl, Andy Cummings dem Aia La O Pele I Hawai`i, Na Palapalai Noho Paipai Ka Uluwehi O Ke Kai Papalina Lahilahi
It is easier to work out if there is a pretty solid beat to it. Every Monday at rehab is polka day so we get Johnny Sturr, Frankie Yankovic, etc. The other days just depends on what anyone brings in or what the exercise physiologist finds at the library. (But I am telling you Celine Dion music is not really good for rehab.
On other occasions when we have brought Hawaiian music, most of it is too nahenahe. Our friends there say it was quite relaxing and lovely music, but it really didn't get the pu`uwai thumping.
At least I am proud of myself that I learned how to burn CDs. I might get rid of my techno-tard status some day.
And yes, Retro, you are indeed quite the comedian. |
