I just saw this news, about the passing of the wonderful kumu hula Paleka Leina'ala Mattos who, along with her brother Kunewa Mook, led their halau to the Merrie Monarch for many years. They won the overall title at the Merrie Monarch just this spring.
Sweetie, remember when we were at MM 2 years ago, Kunewa suppported her as they walked up the ramp to the dance floor? So, she was frail then. Their halau was wonderful, indeed, and I hope it will remain so.
