OK -- this is more of a biography quiz, to see how well you know the history of the music and the musicians.
1. Who learned to play guitar at age 12 while recuperating from getting a piece of glass stuck in his/her foot while sliding down a hill on Moloka`i?
2. Who took slack key lessons from Keola Beamer in 1971 and then later that year began jamming with Jerry Santos?
3. Who got chastized by his/her father for playing "Pipeline" and "Walk Don't Run"?
4. This youngest son of the family learned `ukulele at age three and now plays traditional Hawaiian music even though the Beatles are his favorite rock group. Who is he?
5. At the age of 10, this slack-key player learned `ukulele and guitar from his grandfather and his uncle Joseph "Pete" Hauoli.
6. Who won a slack key contestt at the Waikiki Shell in 1979 and later went on to join The Sons of Hawai`i?
7. This guitar player traded fish for slack key lessons.
8. This musician learned to play trombone, but developed into one of Hawai`i's most prolific song writers and kiho`alu player extraordinare.
9. This collector of songs learned `ukulele and many songs from his school principal.
10. This musician loved Spanish rythms and learned much history of the mele from Kawena Pukui. |

OK, I don't know how well I will do with this. I can't come up with guesses for all of them, but I'll do my best. I'm not positive about any of these, but here goes:
1. Who learned to play guitar at age 12 while recuperating from getting a piece of glass stuck in his/her foot while sliding down a hill on Moloka`i? Makana?
2. Who took slack key lessons from Keola Beamer in 1971 and then later that year began jamming with Jerry Santos? Led Ka'apana?
3. Who got chastized by his/her father for playing "Pipeline" and "Walk Don't Run"? Don't know because I just can't picture any Hawaiian artist playing surf music.
4. This youngest son of the family learned `ukulele at age three and now plays traditional Hawaiian music even though the Beatles are his favorite rock group. Who is he? Jake Shamabukuro?
5. At the age of 10, this slack-key player learned `ukulele and guitar from his grandfather and his uncle Joseph "Pete" Hauoli. George Kahumoku?
6. Who won a slack key contestt at the Waikiki Shell in 1979 and later went on to join The Sons of Hawai`i? Gabby Pahinui
7. This guitar player traded fish for slack key lessons.
8. This musician learned to play trombone, but developed into one of Hawai`i's most prolific song writers and kiho`alu player extraordinare. Dennis Kamakahi
9. This collector of songs learned `ukulele and many songs from his school principal.
10. This musician loved Spanish rythms and learned much history of the mele from Kawena Pukui. [/quote] |

Nice one.
My turn for another one. Same type:
1. This Hawaiian music artist didn't begin singing until age 16 after hearing the voice of Nina Kealiiwahamana.
2. This artist released his first album in 1994.
3. Who learned to play slack key from Cyril Pahinui?
4. Who is often referred to as "Hawai'i's canary?"
5. Who has appeared on "Hawai'i Stars" as a guest judge numerous times?
6. This artist's father wrote the song "Kamalani." Who is she?
7. This Hawaiian music artist says "You Darling" and "Embraceable You" are among his/her favorite songs.
8. This singer and guitarist was originally from the Hawaiian Style Band and now has three solo albums out. |
