Eh Momi and Glenn: Can put da booze insai da ice cream. Freeze 'em up in your ice cream maker, then when the ice cream is pau freezing, add da booze and run it for a few more minutes to get even distribution. You are right Momi, that if you put the alcohol in at the beginiing, it will not freeze up.

I once had a contractor who made gas caps for the M-1 tank and for some big trucks for the Army. They were just stampings, nothing complicated. But, he had to test them at high temp and at low temp to make sure they could be safely screwed on or off the filler neck for the gas tank. The high temp was 130 deg. F and the cold temp was -20 deg. F. He was a very simple contractor. Not sophisticated, running on a budget, so he fabricated his own hot and cold chambers for testing. The hot chamber was a simple metal box sitting on top of a Coleman stove with a calibrated (traceable to NIST) thermometer. The cold chamber was a styrofoam picnic cooler that he would fill with dry ice, also with a calibrated thermometer. Then he had to install the gas cap on the filler neck 3 times, measuring the torque to put on and off and it had to meet a specific value range in order to pass. My boss thought this was scandalous that the guy used homemade test equipment instead of spending $$$$ to buy one that someone else would make. Well, I went through the spec with a fine tooth comb, and there was nothing in the spec that said he had to have any specific kind of test apparatus. It simply said to torque it on and off 3 times and in temperators of a specified range. It said record the readings and any three average readings that came out below the spec limit failed. I convinced my boss that there was nothing in the contract that was violated and moreover, if he insisted the contractor buy a "professionally made" test chamber, that would be a constructive change to the contract and the contractor would have a valid claim against the governmenet. Moreover, since I was a quality specialist, as was my boss, we were not authorized to make changes to the contract since we were not contracting officers and had no warrant binding the government.

The point in this whole missive is that the contractor also had a still iin his factory. He made some kind of white lightning in the still and it was clear as water. One day after pau hana with testing the gas caps, he decided since dry ice was still in the cold chamber, to chrai freeze the white lightning to see at what temp it would freeze. Da buggah never did freeze, even at minus 50 deg. F. It kinda thickened up like syrup but never did freeze. And he had the nerve to want me to taste that poison. I never tasted it, but he did and he loved way cold like that. I woulda thought it would froze his lips and his tongue and his esophagus.

This same contractor did some welding at a bench, speaking of puka bebedees. He did not have pukas in his bebedees. He did not wear bebedees. But da zipper in his jeans was busted and he did not know. He welded all day long and den pau hana he went to lua and found he had sunburn on his hinalea. Ouch ouch. But I did not inspect this. He only just told me the story, but I believe every word, cause that is the kinda guy he was (RIP, Biff). Yes, his name was Biff.

I had another friend I worked with, was mahu. He wore very, very tight pants, so tight that they ripped a wee bit on the side seam. You could see his white bebedees tru da puka in da pants, so he colored his bebedees wit a black magic marker, so no could see da white bebedees, and not be noticeable. Trouble is eretime he moved, da puka would move and more of da white bebedees would show tru. So he colored more spots always trying to keep da pukas from showing. Den was end of day and pau hana. He went home and dilemma solved. Dat was my friend Normie, No bodda me he mahu, he was a great friend until he wen move NYC. He da one muddah go ma'ke on Sept 11, 2001, on his birtday.

An you guys talking about kitties, `Oni`Oni reading ovah my shoulda and she getting grumpy at you guys.

Oooh, the socks with sandals. Please don't do that. The fashion police will get you and put you away.

An addition to Duke's fantasy all you can eat Thanksgiving Buffet -- invented in Cajun land, the infamous turduckhen. A turkey stuffed with a duck which is stuffed with a chicken. That must be for those on a low carb diet.

Check em out over here: http://whitetrashbbq.blogspot.com/2008/08/turduckhen.html

Ah, Cajuns! I've spent time among 'em, dancing & playing! There was a great documentary about them which capture the culture exactly- "Spend It All!".

Passing on a message from someone else - a participant on another board I frequent is doing research for her Master's Degree in English at the University of Freiburg in Germany. She is working on a thesis regarding Pidgin (in edu-speak, "Hawai`i Creole English").

She is asking if people would fill out an online survey, anonymously, at http://www.questionpro.com/akira/TakeSurvey?id=1093406

Please note: I do not know her personally, only through board discussions, and I have not taken the survey - but it appears to be legit, and she needs as much of a sample as she can get; perhaps there are TP'ers who would like to participate. Her contact info is at the website, if you have additional questions.

Braddah Duke,

Get too many zero in da numbahs. So fa, da Fed wen give two trillion to da banks. If goine split two trillion wid two hunred millon peoples, each one onli goine get ten tousan dollah. Chicken feed, no?

But, get moa keiki den you tink. Get a lil bit less den 80 million family in dis ovahsize country. If you go do da math, goine fine out dere goine be jes ovah $25,000 foa one family- cept you goine get moa cause get moa den 1.8 keiki.

So sad, doe- das not how da buggah goine work. Dese kolohe buggah wen steal da government, dey get one different plan. Wid dis plan, da way it goine stay work is ebery family goine PAY $25,000 to dere frens, den dey all goine be some plenny rich. Cept you, bradddah, cause you get moa den 1.8 keiki so yoa share goine be moa big. Dem kolohe buggahs get one ono plan, no? Kinda like da buggah Robin Hood, cept backwards kine- goine take from da poa an give um all to da kanaka waiwai.

But no worries, brah- you goine get da bail out! Dey goine take one big ipu, an bail all da kala outta yoa bank account. Den you no goine have no moa worries bout da kala, cause you no goine have no moa. So no worry bout no ting, dey get um all planned...

Dass why you O`ahu guys better take advantage of both the kanikapila at Higher Ground that Lanet put togeddah and also the Uncle Cyril on ova Waimanalo. Two chances to play music wit odaah peepos who also like da music. And den, oddah peepos gonna hear about. And maybe, jus maybe a young guy gonna hear da music you guys playin and tink "eh, da music, she go." Or tink "Eh, look Unko Duke fingahz flyin playing dat Punahele". Or maybe tin "Eh, dat Unko Jay, he get da riddim, eh. He one happy star!" Remembah, young Kimo we met in Waikiki - 16 yeahz ol hungry fo play Hawaiian music wit sumboddeh, he wen stop and talk to one ole hairy haole buggah like Paul. And had fun, too. He even writes me e-mails, dat young Kimo. But he said he have no one to play wit, kids at St. Louis skoo no want play dat kine. So encourage da young fokes like Kimo and Zack. Encourage Chago - he is old enough to learn `ukulele. Go to erry kani you can fine and have good fun. Peepo goin see you have fun and want fo have good fun, too.

Funny ting no mo peepo want to play, but look da comments on yo videoz on you tube, Dukie. Da peepo almos cry say you remine dem of home; remine dem of backyahd kanikapila. You guys can be da slack key misshunariez on O`ahu - spread da good news, so to speak. Can do, can do, can do (Herb's 3 x rule).

Do you know what Paul would give for opportunities to play Hawaiian music wit oddah folks right in his own backyahd? His left you know what, I tink.

Again da world's problems been solved in da taropatch, but da lolos not even listening! Tinkle down economics or whatevahs, kala attract da power, power attract da kala. Even 10K could be a stimulous!
On da mainland, still get plenty peepo like da old style. Keep playing da music, even if in da supermarket parkinglot.
