Balut -- Filipino dish -- embryo chicken egg/or duck egg boiled in shell and served as such. Once referred to as "duck/chicken soup in a shell". When eating you have to enjoy the crunch of the beak, and avoid those big eyes staring at you as you slurp it down. Sometimes you have to pick out the tiny feathers between your teeth. I myself have never tried and never acquired a taste as I was not born or raised in the Philippines. But I remember on my first visit to my parents homeland, street venders selling these in the Manila neighborhood I was staying. Cries of "Balut" still linger in the cobwebs of my mind. Now the Filipino dish I love that turns haole stomach is diniguan sometimes referred to "chocolate meat" to hide its true nature. |

| Having never had it, it seems gross to me. However, my cousin spent some time in the Philippines and said it was good. He put it this way. If you like duck and you like eggs, balut is both in a single serving. |

Dinuguan (Dee-new-gwan) is awesome & probably one of my favorite dishes. In my opinion it taste a lot like Pork Adobo only juicier and more irony. You won't find the authentic home cooked Dinuguan in restaurants with the pig innards & stuff. It's a homogenized version with only pork belly or pork shoulder......still broke da mout!!! Balut is more hardcore, most my Part-Filipino friends don't eat it (or don't admit to it)Probably taste great but just the thought of an almost fully developed duck/chicken embryo in your boiled egg triggers the gag reflex.....But if Andrew Zimrin of Bizaare Foods can...then so can I. One day I goin' chance 'um. Maybe when I'm flying somewhere because they already have those "Courtesy bags" in case of emergency on the plane. |

Ah, irony. I can't say that there's been much of that in my diet, unless I have to eat my words.
While I have had "chocolate meat" (at a halau gathering), I don't think I'll ever be able to bring myself to eat balut. |

| Many cultures value blood as a component for some dishes. Religious communities sharing aspects of Kosher laws eshew those dishes. |

| Use it in a sentence, please. I might guess that it means irrational, like "Your thought processes are totally irraz." |
