I was on alert all day today, because Andy had emailed to tell me he'd be at the Hoku Festival workshops. Spotted him as I was eating lunch, so I can report to TPers that he is alive and well and having a GREAT time in Honolulu!

Sightings?!?! Where is Waldo?

Great to see Auntie Maria and her husband!

The workshops were great yesterday. Will write more later but have to head over to the convention center now! Lots of slack key workshops and want to meet Kenny Loggins today.

I had a blast over the past two days. The workshops were enjoyable and informative featuring both mainland (Lee Ritenour, Jeff Dayton, David Pack, Kenny Logins) and many, many local artists. My problem was that I could only be in one place at one time so I tried to see a little bit of everything. Very cool to have haku mele workshops by Dennis Kamakahi, Frank Kawaikapuokalani Hewitt and Moon Kauakahi and slack key workshops by Dennis Kamakahi, Cyril Pahinui, Kawika Kahiapo, and John Keawe. There were so many topics: hula, recording, technology, law, composition, and more.

I regret missing many workshops that I would have liked to have attended. And I wish I could have spent more time talking story. I saw a whole bunch of Taropatchers! Duke, Auntie Maria, Keola Donaghy, the Abrigo ʻohana, Baritone, Lance, Darin, Ken Makuakāne, Pali... but the time just went by too fast. I'm looking forward to the awards show tomorrow night.

Andy,

It was great to see you, even if ever so briefly.

I very much enjoyed seeing you, Duke, and several others there---and the workshops were fun, too. Meeting so many greats in one day was a real treat.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay, my friend.
