Cyril Pahinui, Brian Hussey, Eddie Palama and Steven Hall. We know which is Cyril. Eddie Palama playing steel but I do not know the other two to identify who is whom. When Peter-Boy re-posted the link, he put the names in the tags section on You Tube.

Stephen Hall is the one on guitar with the Fu Manchu mustache. Both he & brother Bobby later played in the Peter Moon Band with either Cyril or Martin.Bobby Hall sang the lead on "Flying"

The elder Moon co-produced the Sandwich Isle Band's LP and played on several tracks. According to a piece in the 7/78 Ha`ilono Mele, the SIB grew out of a band that Moon put together for a concert tour.

The URL to the particular page is long, but you can navigate to it from here:

(Thanks to Amy Stillman for last year's blog entry that pointed to this incredibly useful archive.)

Thanks for the link to that video! I see Eddie Palama a few times every week, so if he doesn't know about the video I'll pass it along to him.

I saw Eddie Palama just a couple of hours ago and he confirmed the info you all have. He's seen the videos, but got a big smile to hear that we're talking about him. I'll try to get him to join TP soon.

Ditto to what Russell (a fount of information!) said.

Another minor correction. regarding the reposting of the videos to YouTube... There is no Peter Moon Jr. The father and the son have different middle names. Peter is trying to strike out on his own - an incredible musician with style and spirit abounding. The "Jr." moniker forces unfair comparisons. He didn't throw in the "Jr." Everybody else did.

There was a Peter Moon, and now there is another Peter Moon. No "Jr."

Mahalo!

We could follow the classical convention and call them the "the Elder" and "the Younger," kinda like those Pliny and Cato and Scipio boys.

Or the blues convention, which would make young Peter "Son Moon." As long as we are careful not to conflate him with some religious leader or other.

Thanks eh Bill. I just used thazt cause when i met him at Ozʻs house I thought that what he said his name was. My bad. I guess you otta know.

And I knew that he was trying to go his own way cause he learned most of his stuff by himself and sources other than the other Peter.

No feel bad Bruddah Al, I just found out today up at Ozzie's house that Peter Boy is not a Jr. He get different middle name from his dad. Composer Larry Kimura gave him his Hawaiian middle name according to Oz......Well actually Bill first alerted me to it in this thread but I forgot all about it then it was brought up today in talk story with Ozzie....Still won't ease the burden of carrying the iconic name of Peter Moon though If only everyone knew how so very talented young Peter Moon really is Tell 'um Al.....and he mo' mean now you know!!! I still get chicken skin when I recollect him playing that sweet resonator uke of yours at Ozzie's house.

Hoof Hearted?...Was it you Stu Pedaso?

Mahalo nui loa Kakou! You all are so informative. Was happy to find out about Ha'ilona Mele, a fabulous resource with detailed histories of Hawai'i's mele evolution. (see link above) Keep sharing your knowledge and personal experiences; I'm loving it! And, I'm learning that our listeners at KAPU, and our Hawaiian friends appreciate it too.
