Or what about the Puerto Rican "Tres Leches" cake --wow.
OK, I'll go back to my cookie baking now. Today I'll be rolling out and cutting the sugar cookies and decorate them tomorrow.
Gotta go buy a new car today, too.
Only one week until Christmas! Woo-hoo.
Trick I learned from my Chicano brother in law: take can of condensed mile, punch a couple of holes in top, put in pot of water (not over the top of the can!), bring to boil for 5 minutes or so - watch 'em - and it turns to something like creme caremel. Onolicious! |

If you boil the can of condensed milk like Jack says, boil it for long enough, you get caramel candy. Not hard to do at all, simply time consuming. But way better than store bought candy.
And home-made nut brittle - oh man, the bestest. I've made it with cashews instead of peanuts. But down in W. Va., peanut brittle was a Christmas tradition. You had to use those red skin peanuts, but had to rub the skins off of them. I think it was the play between sweet and salty that made it so ono.
My ma used to make candy out of left over mashed potatoes. It was kinda fudgy with peanut butter and powdered sugar. She would also make candied orange peel. Never wasted anything back then. Matter of fact, I think I remember some kind of candy with potato peels.
I always liked chocolate covered cherries, too. That was a special treat at Christmas time. But now to me they taste sickeningly sweet.
I always loved Whitman's Sampler chocolates, too. It was great because it had a map on the box so you knew what candy was what without having to resort to mashing the bottom to see what was inside (my sister, Emma, always squished the candy). |

Left over mashed potatoes is a good start for lefse, a Norwegian potato tortilla you can use for sandwiches (great with primost, a brown sugary cheese made from whey), rulepulse (pressed spiced lamb roll) or anything else. Another way to eat it is with butter, sugar and cinnamon with strong coffee on the side. Moderation in all things. |

Dark chocholate, of course. I read somewhere that "milk chocolate" doesn't contain chocolate, just artificial chocolate flavor, sugar, wax and reconstituted milk. PLASTIC!!! I think it was Hershey's milk chocolate, but I'm not sure. |

Real milk chocolate does contain cocoa solids, but to a lesser percentage than the dark stuff. If you like milk chocolate, get a specialty brand. The actual "chocolate" content of Hershey bars has been in question for years.
Now, "white" chocolate has no cocoa solids, so it is not technically "chocolate." |
