Eh, Peter, da local boys jus' quiet, azz all. No mo nuff potagee maybe. Maybe dey hapa Japanee, dey get plenny fo say but dey no like talk about it (could be same said fo Scandihoovians, one lady wen tell me, "We cry too, but we do it behind the barn.").
Today I stay taking one mini-vaction from da low carb kine diet and I stay goin make one cheesecake (small kine). No worry, da graham cracka crus' is "whole grain". Balance--hahd fo attain, hahd fo maintain.

eh braddahz ! How u guyz ste?

woah, long time i no cruz dis site. i ste come chek em out anden u guys ste come out again. Aurite den.

ansa to Retro from da odda tred:
<<<<
Dat buggah pops in - posts his wisdom - vanishes - deletes his posts.

But it's enough to signal that he still watches over us ... Braddah works in mistee-remous ... myssi-terry-muss ...

musty-tremendus ... ... ... ODD ways. >>>

Brah, i nomo wizdom. I oni ged pupuledom and lolodom. Anden no can help post and delete coz I ged multiple personalities. Won guy insai me post wot he tink, den da odda guy delete em coz he tinkin, eh, u not maoli! wot u postin dakine stuff fo, anden u donno hawaiian musik dat good !! u no mo bizness posting yo opinion. so az y !!

I no pleh geetah so much since my leff middo finga ste stuck wid ahtritus. No bend so good. Sometime she go, sometime she no go. I still pleh doe. But, I woz kaina depressed. But now I going bak to massho arts and stayin in da gym 2-3 hrs at a time. I bot trout fly rod too so I ste practice how fo shoot da line. I ste chai new hobbies.

Kory, u like no wot on my mind? hehe ... kden, I go rambo on -- not da kine movie kine rambo, da kine tok storeh kine rambo. kden, i go rite storeh fo u since I ste dreenkin beeya an tinking of home.

I living in da pass. I tink I one living ghost. One feeshin place i wen go, i see strange tings weya I saw very few peepo befo. I saw white "kumus and seals" laying on da rocks. I saw dog shet weya neva see dog shet befo. I saw opala weya neva had befo. I saw wata weya neva had befo. Look like da ocean rising. So many strange teengs. I wonda wot da spirits of da land feel of dese strange teengs an sometime pilau teengs.

Anden stuff i useta see dat now I no see. I neva see da skool of nenue an humus weya had befo. How can da buggas dissapeeya from 1 yeeya ago? Long time ago, 40-50 yrs ago, had plenneh feesh dis one place. Now nomo manini skools, nomo moi, nomo da wowo jumpin tru da waves. One spot I went, had plenny mamo doe. Usually da humu an nenue no geeve em chance fo bite. I tinkin, no wonda da spirit wen yell one nite time wen I wen go look fo loli.

Hoh, sounds like Hawaii 78 eh? Yea, I tink how da tutu kane, tutu wahine, and son, all pass away tink about da place. Mah neibahz granfadda buried deya too. I remembah mah neibah faddah all sked toking of hearing his fadda calling him wen he wen go torching for feesh oa deya. Wot da spirits of da old peepo tink of da place now? Da ones hu ste buried in da graveyard now overgrown and unrecognizable. Da "new" peepo donno dat dis one spot woz graveyard. Ya, how wood da ole spirits feel wen deya resting place get desecrated. I not maoli so mebbe i nomo business posting dis kine stuff. Ya mebbe I go delete dis latah on. One time at da regulah graveyard, I saw dis lady wokin her dog. Da dog wen go piss on da grave stone. I wanted to keel da lady an da dog. Incredible disrespek. Ya, az how da spirits feel wen u desecrate deya land.

Tinkin about da ole peepo, I rememba tutu pounding poi ole kine way. She no woz beeg kanaka lady. She woz tin wid long wite heya an tik glasses. At dat time I neva no dat her expert style was someting I wood neva see again. Ya ya, i no .. ole style poi pounding useta be men's work, heh, but woz out of neccesity since tutu kane died. Da lan taro woz boiled in da 5 gallon crakah cans ova fiya. She peel em wid opihi shell. Befo time dey use opihi shell fo clean feesh an mek spoon too. I remembah her an da dawdah toking about how one wahine died from pounding poi wen she wen pound her finga. She probably died from blood poisoning wen no had much medical doze dayz. Dey spoke Hawaiian. I neva tink notting of it since all da ole peepo befo time spoke native languages. I neva no dat dis dialect would neva be herd again. Even wid da revival of the language, dialects are lost. Hehe, mebbe can tok new dialek, like peepo mekin new slak key an new hula. Tutu useta mek lauhala mats too, da regula kine and da fanci squaya kine wid puka in da middo. Ahdonno wot da style iz. Mebbe u guys hu no Hawaiiana no dis mo betta. Ahdonno too much Hawaiiana stuff. We useta sleep on da mats. She eventually went senile. It broke my heart to see her blank stare.

Long ago dey lived in a cave carved in da beeg dirt hill befo dey build da house on wonoddah hill. Neva had kala fo mek house. Da house is now owned by rich man hu owned IT company. Da cave weya dey lived collapsed coz of beeg earthquake. So now dat is nomo, like da family and all da generations of Hawaiians too are now nomo. Da "new" guy hu own da place at leese preserved da place as it as. I respek him fo dat. But he donno dat tutu kane is buried around da house. I donno weya since dat was secret. I get idea weya ste but no good tok about weya ste. We neva slept upstairs since tutu kane footsteps was herd wokin aroun upstairs. Wen da son got married, da wife cood not ste deya coz she wood see tutu wahine spirit. She wen go back to PI. So da guy hu own da place now may or may not be aware of the spirts still "living" deya.

Around one place in da area had konane carved into da rocks, ocean sai. Anden had one imprint -- look like one beeg feet. Small keed time, we wen call em Kamehameha footprint. Tutu used to catch bebeh manini using coconut leaves to chase em in a net. Ya ya, I no dat u conservationist say dis is no good. But dis woz private land and dey had plenni bebeh manini erreh yeeya. 4-5 peepo can oni eat so much. So we ate dried small manini dat she made. Gotta wach out fo da spike wen u eedum, bumby poke da mout. Now dis is nomo. Wen we caught puhi uha, had plenneh small manini in da stomach. Now puhi uhatoo is nomo aroun dat place.

Dat place still ged plenneh mana dat peepo dunno about. Plenneh archeological treasures too, but I tink or hope dat it will be "buried" wid geological time as it was buried in secret in da fers place. Like many of the old burial places buried by bulldozers due to development of real estate properties. Some of us are aware that the ole spirits may rise to visit you if you own da property. Espeshulli if u made cesspool around da burial undagroun. Hehe, but we locals tend to keep deese storehz to ourselves due to ridicule from outsiders. Haha, mebbe I should not even have said dis. Mebbe I go delete dis post latah on. Had one guy wen bulldoze one place fo cleeya da lan. Few dayz latah he broke his leg from accident. "Dey" say dat he bulldozed ovah peepo dat woz buried deya. Becoz peepo woz buried in secred befo time, u neva no hu ste unda yo house or yo land unless u can "see" wen oa da spirits rise to bodda u. Plenneh war befo time. Plenneh site had mass burial oa juss leave da bodies. No woz juss aloha dis, aloha dat. Az oni in modern times dat peepo tink aloha dis aloha dat.

Ged plenneh places like dis in Hawaii dat I juss toked about. Plenneh versions of Hawaii 78.

Get hope fo da yongah generashuns. Wen I went feeshin wid mah niece, she said "Hala unko, u step ovah yo feeshing pole !!" Heh, u oldah Hawaii folks will smile at dis coz u may no da meaning.

"Ya ya, I no dat u conservationist say dis is no good."
Das me, bruddah Menpachi, bu' u stay wrong. No good whack da beeg one, ia nui, cause dem da breeders. Law all mess up, no get 'um. Wen get pleeny da nui ones, den get plenny keiki. All dem bebeh manini, I tink mebbe one get nui, mebbe nomoa. Mo bettah grine da keiki kine, den da manini nui goine make plenny moa. Wack da beeg one, den u get nomoa.

Get fishing right fo one ahupua'a, Kohala side. We neva let nobody wack da opihi nui, nevah let nobody sell- ohana kine onli. One DLNR guy, he count um, he wen say get moa opihi on one pohaku dea den dey get on da hole moku O'ahu side. Das da way- no take da beeg one. Den get plenny. Keiki kine no mattah.

Stay lilbit sad, da story you wen tell. On dis ahupua'a, stay use opihi yet fo scrape da kalo. Anytime you like come, come!

Wen foget- tanks fo da scoop on how fo cook da pua'a wid da maia skins- I goine try um...

Glen - like that in West Virginia, too. Very sad what progress does to the land and the memories.

Happy to read your talk story, though, because like I say, you are very smart in so many ways.

Yep, even us makule peepo.

Periodically I hear about good things, though. Like trying to farm fish in the ocean itself. Not like fish ponds from old times, but similar concept. But I think was some fish that Hawaiians normally do not eat but Samoans like and they were trying to market this type of fish to get Hawaiians to eat them. That must be like trying to market tilapia. Blecch.

Used to iin W. Va., could buy land so cheap, they were practically giving it away. Now when I want some land down there, i costs WAAAAY too much. Because rich city people went and bought land and have their weekend "cabins" there so they can go ride a horse and think they are country people. Haha - jokes on them. Country people don't ride horses, they ride pick-up trucks. And they used mules to work with, not horses because horses eat up too much food for the output one gets from them. Nobody keeps a cow anymore, nobody grows tobacco for a cash cop. Matter of fact, if people plant their own personal kitchen garden, that is a major accomplishment. The young people don't care about that kind of stuff, and the makule ones can't do a lot of that stuff any more. I don't keep a garden because I am too makule.

The creeks we used to play in when we were kids no longer exist or are just bare little trickles of water because so many damn dams have been built - supposedly for flood control. Sure makes big lakes for the super duper power motor boats to go zooming all over the lake so you get a lake full of oil. And the people who like fish from shore or from a pontoon boat get the brunt of the speed boat wakes. I think it looks crazy to see so many house trailers dotting the landscape. Nobody builds a house anymore. Houses cost too much. Now you have made it if you can get a double wide. But I remember the houses with the tin roofs and you could hear the rain on the roof when you were laying in the feather bead. Now the in roofs are different kind -- aluminium on a trailer.

I am very sad for the things my children have only heard about and that their children (if someday I EVER get grandchildren) will never even know existed.

There is nothing so constant as change. Common sense isn't common. Nostalgia ain't what it used to be. Every era has its plus and its minus. We're alive now, let's appreciate the opportunities we have despite the ignorance around us. None of us is as dumb as all of us.

E Cris,
Wotchu mean we ste ova hea but erybody quiet coz get da annual drama wid won nu twist kinda like da Supabowl but molike As da Wirl turns. Dey callem da Hawaiian Grammies you rememba dis won. Erry yeah we get won new edition ova hea. E, even get won Sarah Palin rift going. But az won new parent you goin spokm rite away as good ol bad behavior, wen da keed like go take control of eryting. Ho da drama, ho da suspense. Ho would be sumptin if woz like reel life no? Kenna get enuff of it, keepem coming. Ho Dennis K wen go say afta Tia wen go win “We waz robbed.” Da proverbial sh*t hit da fan. Erybody git won not up dea undawea, anden someone go pull da wedgees even mo tight, da kine wea you go say ow weee, den ov course you get da occasional lolo oh brudda go doem again.

Funny no, Nobody ova hea wen even nodice dat 80 million people in Egyp wen jez git rida da dicteita and get plany moa peepo axing fo da same. Not won peep not won comment. Ery body get won disease ova hea called myopia. Kinda like makapiapia wen you kenna open yo eye cause get plany makapiapias insai. Myopia da eye ste stuck on one ting anden kenna focus on udda stuff. Anyways, ahui hou da sun goin rize preddy soon I tink.

You wen hit da nail ontop da head, Peter. Some luxury dat we get fo ignore da res' of da world. I remember one comedian was talkin about da tragedy of da 2nd homeless - peepo so bad off dat dey no mo da 2nd home. "I wen stay complain dat I no mo slippah til I wen spock one guy dat no mo feets. Den I wen tink 'HE no need slippah!'" Sometimes need one feeler gage fo measure our depth as a society.
