Hacome them mean liddo buggahs come out when you perform in publick? Sound system screws up. Cables don't work. Mike won't work, etc. Is there a rule about if you perform in publick, we gonna make sure something gets screwed up?

Everything in the world is already broken - we just have to wait for it to reveal itself as such. |

I've always asserted that there are "tuning gremlins" that stalk the stages of the world, tweaking tuning pegs while we're not looking! Fun thing to look up - "Gremlin". |

...there are no 'gremlins' if you plan right. The one and only time I had a gremlin, I grabbed it and fed it to my dog. ~slkho |

Ah, slkho, you hit the nail on the head.
Do any of you have an actual written chicklist that you use whenever you have performances? What stuff do you bring? What things are absolutely a must?
I'd like to develop some type of checklist and would welcome your input. |

I don't have a dog. And kitty is a fussy eater. I don't think gremlins are on her menu. Can I mail my gremlins to you, for your dog to eat? Unko Paul |

Remember that digital tuners need batteries. |

Remember, I didn't say tuning gremlins, I said the tuning demon, who you encounter when you just can't get your instrument tuned, or have someone's instrument go out of tune in the middle of a number, when you can't stop to retune. |

You gotta love the weather. Years ago, at a Bluegrass jam near the Cascade foothills out in Maple Valley, the wind picked up and the weather changed and we all went out of tune. Pre-digital tuner days. I had a tuning fork and we limped by with that. |

Wanda, This may have been brought up before, but what to search for, I dunno, maybe "gig" might be da word. Anyway my checklist is in my head, and because I like to pack lightly it varies on the gig. But hereʻs a list
1. Instrument(s), instrument cable, charts and music stand (since I no memorize like da pros) 2. microphone, stand and mic cable 3. P.A. System or instrument amp if needed, cables, power strip, extension chord 4. clips for music-for possible wind when playing outside, music stand light - so I can see the charts 5. extra batteries, a second set of instrument strings 6. tuner, instrument pre-amp for my passive pickup instrument 7. if got, backup cables -- never know when a cable is at the end of its life, or somehow gets cut, or someone needs 8. instrument stand 9. RCA chord to connect ipod, CD player to PA system -- for dancers if cannot play mele, and break music 10. if needed, a folding chair
I pack the non-bulk stuff in a 21" computer bag with rollers. Pretty heavy when packed with electrical and music. I also use "rock a roller" to transport the bulky stuff when needed |
Genaro
Should I? Itʻs only $, and where Iʻm going itʻll burn or melt. |

Yeah, good list, Genaro. I would add bring extra fuses for the amp. One majah bummah when such a manini ting is pau. They are little and take up no room. I thihk, too-- copies of music in the bag with the music books, extra copies of son sheets in the guitar case, and even more extra copies in the `ukulele case, that way, never be without at least the words, if no have them memorized.
Could it possibly be because it was wet and rainy weather that would have blown a fuse in the amp? I mean if the amp was set where the ground was damp? There was a dance floor put down for the hula dancers, but we had to dry it off with rags, because the floor was wet. I was worried all day about whether Paul would get ba-zatted from the rainy weather when he plugged in the guitar.
I have to take my duties as a roadie much more seriously. |
