Does any one have any suggestions for an appropriate Oli or Hawaiian Hymn for a memorial service, that you can think of.

We are having a small gathering of friends to remember a dear friend. She loved Hawai'i and lived on Kaua'i for many years before health issues forced her to move to the mainland.

If someone can think of something from a CD or album I'll try and see if I have a way of getting it. Mahalo nui.

Thank you Ed. A truly beautiful version. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

How about Ke Akua Mana Ē. (How Great Thou Art)?

Sound clip. It's available on iTunes.

A song with Kaua'i ties and is often used to honor a woman is "Pua Lilia".

Ummm...Pua Lilia for a memorial service would probably only be appropriate if that love song was a favorite of the honoree (see lyrics and translation here: http://www.huapala.org/Pua/Pua_Lilia.html). It's only "tie to Kaua`i" is that it was composed here by Alfred Alohikea.

Since Mark mentioned that his friend had lived on Kaua`i, how about "Aloha Kaua`i" or "Nani Kaua`i"? Two songs composed specifically for/about this island. Many versions of both are available on CD...

Mark, by any chance is this service for Carmen?

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'll use them to create a playlist for some music to be played during the memorial.

I think a pono love song would be nice, including "Waimanalo" (by Kalakaua), "Awaiaulu" or even "Pua Lililehua".
